Kamomeya Launches Proof of Concept of “Land” “Air” and “Sea” Next-Generation “Island-Model” Hybrid Unmanned Logistics Platform

Kamomeya Inc. (CEO: Masato Ono; Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan) will launch a proof of concept of the next-generation “island-model” hybrid unmanned logistics platform “Kazamidori” in Spring 2017.  The platform combines “land,” “air” and “sea” unmanned logistics vehicles, which can accommodate the narrow lands found in Japan and other countries.

Kamomeya will also commence a proof of concept of its telemedicine platform “KamomeMedical.”  This system’s aim is to provide remote medical care and regular distribution of medicine for patients living on remote islands.  This is the first project of its kind in Japan, which is targeted at resolving the problems of shopping and medical care that have arisen from the low birth rate and aging population of Japan, together with its fading logistics networks in the underpopulated areas.

From April 2017, the area of these experiments will be expanded to include other islands of the Seto-Inland Sea.

[Outline of POC: Spring 2017]

The proof of concept of unmanned logistics will be carried out on islands near Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture.  It will use an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) and an unmanned marine vehicle (UMV) between the mainland and the ports of the islands, and an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) between the ports and the customers’ homes.  Integrated Cargo and Unmanned Machines Traffic Management System “Kazamidori” (Integrated UTM) developed by Kamomeya will be used for logistics management.

In contrast to the logistics projects using only drones put forward in other areas, we aim to provide an “island-model” platform suitable for countries with narrow lands such as Japan, by combining multiple logistics methods optimal for densely populated areas, narrow lands, and remote islands.
