Flight Test of Next-Generation Unmanned Logistics Aircraft


TAKAMATSU, JAPAN (February 1, 2018) – Kamomaya Inc. (Representative Director and CEO: Masato Ono; Takamatsu, Kagawa, Japan) announced that it has completed co-development of the next-generation logistics unmanned aircraft (Code name: KamomeCopter) in partnership with Airnamics d.o.o. (CEO: Marko Thaler; Medvode, Slovenia) that commenced in September 2016, and has started flight tests in Slovenia.

This unmanned aircraft is a fixed-wing vehicle capable of Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) which can be operated on small islands and other locations with limited space for take-offs and landings.  This is one of the world’s largest vehicles dedicated for logistics with cargo space inside.

The first flight test in Slovenia confirmed the vehicle’s basic aerodynamic performance and other functions.

A flight test in Japan is expected to be conducted in the Spring of 2018 or thereafter.

Kamomeya Inc. (Representative Director and CEO: Masato Ono) was founded in Takamatsu, Kagawa, with the goal of developing an unmanned logistics platform.  As Kamome Air Project, the company succeeded in conducting Japan’s first long-distance (8 km) transportation experiment over the sea on January 18, 2015.  On September 15, 2015, the company participated in a 3-field proof of concept comprised of logistics, telemedicine and transportation of medicine, and crisis management.  Costs for these experiments were financed by READYFOR? Cloudfunding, and the company completed funding of 1,116,000 Yen.  As a result, it received the award of READY FOR OF THE YEAR 2015 “READY FOR Local CHALLENGE.”  The company was also awarded the Local and Public Division Grand Prix of Kagawa Business & Public Competition 2015 hosted by Kagawa University.
